With my first pregnancy breastfeeding was something that I l always planned on doing. I think it’s pretty amazing that our bodies are able to nourish and strengthen our little babies and customize their nutrition. I also love the bonding aspect of it. It was something that I truly looked forward to as a mom. It was always a part of my birth plan and it is such a natural thing that I expected it to be easy and just work out for me.
Beckham always latched good he just had the tiniest, shallowest latch. I worked with the lactation specialists in the hospital pulling his mouth open trying to get a deeper latch. When I got home, I continued working with him but he just loved tucking his little bottom lip under. He actually still does it to this day! Because he was latching so shallow my stimulation was low and I slowly produced less and less milk. Even with pumping I would only get a couple ounces at a time. Also, being a first time mom I would choose sleep over eating, which is horrible, I know but I was so tired! I felt like Beckham was constantly nursing every hour and it was so exhausting! I knew I wasn’t making enough milk so then he became a snacker because he was getting little servings at a time. I tried so so hard and really wanted to make it as long as I could for him. Now, I’m not against formula feeding at all. I mean, it’s 2018 and I think that formula is still good for babies and hey, as long as your baby is happy and healthy and fed, that’s really all that matters, right?! About 5 months in I finally decided to start supplementing with formula. Then, the less I was nursing my milk literally just disappeared! I didn’t even get engorged, it just, poof, went away!
I was so excited to get these amazing lactation cookies from Boob Food. I always pinned all these recipes on Pinterest to help increase milk supply but who has that kind of time with a new baby! Boob Food are healthy cookies designed for the nursing mama to help produce up to 5 oz. more breast milk. They are organic, vegan, and gluten free. They contain ingredients like oats, brewers yeast and flax seed. They are super filling and give you that little boost of energy to get you through your day.
I packed these in my hospital bag with Blakely and started eating them after she was born. I feel like it took forever for my milk to come in with Beckham. I think it was about a week but felt like 5 years. I was terrified that it was just never going to happen, first time mom problems! These are seriously so yummy.I would definitely recommend these if you struggle or even if you don’t. They come in the cutest packaging and unopened the shelf life is about 2 months. So stock up mamas!
